Welcome to NIW

- the Online Platform where Knowledge Sharing and Innovation arises from the experience and discussions on Welfare Technology among stakeholders within the Nordic countries.

The Nordic Centre for Welfare and Social Issues and The Nordic Council of Ministers are funding a new initiative for a Nordic innovation network with the purpose of collaboration on welfare technologies between relevant people, organizations and companies within the Nordic countries.

The main purpose is sharing knowledge within specific themes and initiate corporation between universities, companies, institutions etc. to improve/maintain social healthcare through use of technology, with the decreasing number of social healthcare people, who we need to provide care for the handicapped and the increasing number of elderly citizens.

The long term goal is also to support the industry of welfare technology where initiatives across borders in the Nordic countries might be able to strengthen the Nordic position and export in EU and internationally.

The knowledge sharing could for example be learning from projects in other Nordic countries who have tried a technology or solution within the social area. An example could be utilizing internet for video and data communication between citizens and care people, or implementing electronic key systems using mobile phones by home care people for accessing homes at citizens not able to open the door.

NIW is an abbreviation of Nordic Innovation Network for Welfare Technology, which in Nordic language originally is called "Nordisk Innovationsnetværk for Velfærdsteknologi".

It is important that all Nordic countries are represented in NIW, and all participants are able to read and contribute in their native Nordic language. Therefore we have written the user interface in English, which is easily translated into all Nordic languages automatically using a plug-in. Please read more here

Using latest information and communication technology, like PC's, tablets and smartphones with third party applications (Apps), there is now an opportunity to better structure daily life and support memory for an increasing number of users with mental disabilities like ADHD or Dementia.
